New Main South Nonprofit Wins Local Support Foliage Properties Identifies the Dexter Research Institute as Up-and-Coming Local
Nonprofit
WORCESTER, Ma. July 9, 2010 – The Dexter
Research Institute (DRI), a local nonprofit that supports international graduate students, received a $3,000 donation from
Foliage Properties LLC today. The contribution is the largest in DRI’s history, and the organization plans to use the
funds for its growing cultural and educational programs. RJ
Horwitz, the founder and president of Foliage Properties, a Worcester-based real estate business that specializes in short-sales,
donated to DRI after observing its efforts for five years. “I’m
a promoter of cultural exchange, and I believe that it’s important to support these international graduate students
while they pursue their personal and professional goals in the United States,” comments Horwitz. The Dexter Research Institute, located near Clark University in Worcester, provides personalized
training and support to international graduate students from local universities. Some of DRI’s programs include subsidized
housing, ESL training, cultural excursions, group dinners and celebrations, internship networking, and professional and personal
counseling. “Foliage Properties’ donation is a major milestone for the Dexter Research
Institute. We strive constantly to create opportunities for our students and to maintain a rich, intercultural community,
and these funds are an incredible resource for us,” says Lisa Desrosiers, DRI’s president. With Foliage Properties’ donation, DRI will create a “language lab” for
its members with Rosetta Stone English language software. The organization also plans to expand its calendar of events to
include subsidized trips and outings to local cultural and historical sites.
